Tentative 2009 Legislative Bills

The following are just a few of the bills being reviewed in the 2009 legislative session, which I thought were important to almost any Florida resident. It is important to remember that these bills have not yet passed as of January 2nd, 2009.

HB 1 Dori Slosberg and Katie Marchetti Safety Belt Law [CPSC] deletes requirement for enforcement of Florida Safety Belt Law as secondary action.

HB 7 Driver License Restrictions Restricts number of passengers permitted in vehicle operated by person under certain age; provides exceptions; provides for secondary enforcement; provides citation procedures for violation of such restrictions.

HB 15 Automatic Renewal of Service Contracts Requires persons, firms, or corporations that sell services to consumers pursuant to certain contracts to disclose automatic renewal provisions; provides disclosure requirements; provides exceptions to disclosure requirements; provides that certain violations will render automatic renewal provision void & unenforceable; provides applicability.

HB 35 Driver's License Fees Increases fees for reinstating suspended or revoked driver's license or commercial motor vehicle license; increases civil penalty for late payment of civil traffic penalties; requires funds be used to recruit & retain officers of Florida Highway Patrol.

HB 45 Traffic Infractions Provides surcharge on noncriminal moving traffic violations; provides for proceeds from such surcharge to be used to fund cost of civil traffic infraction hearing officers.
