Upside Down Tomatoes Month One

On March 26th, I posted my first upside down tomato article. Here's an update.

They're doing GREAT!

We did have an incident where the Early Girl plant became infested with tomato hornworms. They had just started to spread to the Sophya, so I went to Home Depot and got some Bacillus Thuringiensis (BT) and sprayed the plants. It took care of the worms just fine, but it shocked the plants for about a week. Now they're showing signs of coming back to their previous, healthy state.

The picture below shows all four hanging plants, on the south side of our apartment. When we got them one month ago, they were only hanging about a foot below the bottom of the pot. You can see here they're about 4 feet long. I bought some stakes to place under them, just to help with the swaying in the wind, to preven the main shoots from getting snapped off.

This next picture is of the dark green tomatoes that the Sophya is producing. They're much darker than the other three varieties. The picture below is of the tomatoes on the Early Girl. She's true to her name: First to blossom, first to mature and the fastest growing. Too bad she's the first to get worms!
This is the fruit that's on the Bush Champion. These pics don't do the plants justice. The plastic strips you see are strips cut from grocery bags, which I use to make my plarn purses. They're great for tying plants to stakes!

Among all four plants there are roughly 45 tomatoes growing!
